Integrated Child Development :
Karma Kutir has launched a project entitled "Integrated Child Development Project. Facilities to be incorporated in this project are a crèche-cum-day care centre for children, a vocational training centre for young boys and girls and up-gradation of the existing centre for inclusion of Primary Education. The project is integrated in the sense that all centres are interlinked and opportunity is provided for interaction between trainees from different centres, synergy of complementary skills, positive recovery and reinforcement of a sense of dignity, and outlets for unutilized energies. This will be an integrated process of development of human resource through training of the marginalized children and the youth. Each component will sustain the other.
Activities other than Crèche and Day Care:
Computer Literacy Programme starting from the age of 8 yrs and covering the young and adolescents.
Classes in Spoken English for all age groups.
Training in Market –aligned Skills Training (MAST).
The sanction of plan for extension and renovation of existing premises has been granted. Karma Kutir proposes to induct the work as soon as possible. However the implementation of the Project with its various activities will call for considerable financial assistance. Karma Kutir hopes for donations / grants to make a success of the Project.

Rural Intervention :
Since 1992 Karma Kutir has actively been trying to bring the rural women within its fold. Taking cue from the experiences of working with rural folk, Karma Kutir adopted a new approach since 2002. The approach is to reach out to the community itself, with the ulterior objective to create self-help groups, and to create craft-concentration in the rural sector.
The approach has also been a holistic one. Along with training in handicrafts, awareness programmes has been undertaken. The areas covered are Village Uttar Kajirhat, Village Vasa and Village Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas. |
